If New Mexico was really invested in athletics then they'd be in the PAC right now. The moment they signed on to stay in the MWC they showed their true colors and where they belong in the landscape of college athletics. And when you choose to be in the current MWC instead of investing to get into the PAC, you should lose all ability to keep out a school like New Mexico State that fits geographically into the restructured MWC. Frankly, UNM should be happy that they'll have two rivals within close proximity that will generate interest in their now floundering program. New Mexico has been given every opportunity to succeed and was elevated from the WAC to the MWC but never dedicated the resources to take advantage of a decent sized market that they absolutely should absolutely own.
