Assuming the occlusion is fairly balanced, I would think an undersized temp would be unlikely to cause occlusal trauma to teeth it doesn't touch. That theory would be much more possible with a temporary that is too high, but that wouldn't explain pain with multiple teeth so far forward.

Something doesn't add up here. Its going to take some testing to help localize the true source.
