...but two games ago there was a report that Cam threw during warm ups but just couldn't get any velocity on the ball - so everything was soft and/or floated. And he really couldn't go downfield.
I heard the same thing from Scott Mitchell - who does the Ute broadcast with Bill Riley - who said that Cam went out during warmups and was throwing, but he looked bad. Couldn't get velocity on the ball.
So it's entirely possible that he was "cleared to play" from a medical perspective - his hand healed enough it isn't at risk to open whatever wound is there and he can play - but there's still enough hurt from the injury that he can't grip the ball like he needs to in order to get the velocity he needs.
I have no idea. I know he took a lot of heat last year coming off of his leg surgery - even though they never should've expected him to come back and shouldn't have ever set the expectation that he could. So I'm sure it doesn't help any that he's now getting more of the same from this injury. And I don't know if he's saying "I can't play - I don't have any velocity", or if the coaches are saying "Cam, we're going to have you sit this one out - you're still missing velocity on your throws."
