Serious answer:
1. Recruiting rankings. We have 2 4-stars in the stable right now. Name that for another position. Can we? I’m asking.
Supplement that with Hill, a big receiver who had shown himself to be effective. Productivity is unimpressive since the TE move.
2. In limited targets, they’ve looked reasonably competent. This is more of a stretch, admittedly, as it is hard to tell with a small sample size.
3. Precedent makes me look more to play calling/offensive design than the competence of our TE group for recent lack of utilization. The Holker thing – – Arod raved about how they could not cover him in fall ball, then offered him limited targets. He reportedly threw a hissy fit, the degree of which rendered him impossible to retain as a Cougar. Then he became an All-American at a mediocre school that did target him.
Maybe I’m wrong. Perhaps it is in fact on the players in the TE group alone or far more than any other factor for their lack of impact. The above items make me think that it is not.
