If there were collusion or overt negligence by Paterno, I might agree. It appears that Sandusky was a lone wolf who had been given enough power to hide his tracks. It's a terrible soiling of Paterno's name and legacy, but I do not believe it was emblematic of the program. Until the Sandusky nightmare, Penn State was considered the sterling example of a clean, well-run program.
