Others have given clues on what to do. There are 1 month policies, but I'm
guessing the 18 year old doesn't own a car. And getting them their own non owner policy won't really work for what you want.

Your insurance might want something to prove your child isn't living in the household to remove. You can also exclude them when they are away and add them on when they return. That doesn't always give you full credit for removing them. Lots of companies have a discounted rating factor for a student away at college.
