Money will get you in the door ….once you’re in the room there may be 35 other people in there ….maybe 10 depending on the player and the $$$$ amount ….you have to be legit to close the deal ….. the money is relatively the same with the big players (basketball schools).

It blows my mind, but BYU is one of the big dogs now.

To seal the deal you Need a vision, need a plan, players have to buy in …along with their families.

Pope worked harder than most coaches ever have. He probably worked harder at recruiting than anyone BYU had ever had before him…. But some think he was like a used car salesman …..not everyone likes that approach. No way he lands all these guys no matter how much money there is. Rah Rah and emotion don’t appeal to everyone.

Rose was a wonderful coach. He was full of substance. Pope had younger energy and was invigorating when he got here working his tail off.

Donors have to trust and believe in someone….these donors are pretty sharp individuals. It takes a little bit of savvy and brains to acquire the kind of resources that these individuals hold. Usually, they are not easily swayed by salesmen. These kind of folks usually want to deal with some thing that is backed with Substance. KY=Substance.

Kevin seems to have a pretty calm and quiet, humble yet confident approach. He has the connections and the résumé to deliver. It’s not just words or feelings that he is pushing …..the fact that he has put together a dream team coaching staff, which is unprecedented in college hoops is evidence of his ability to deliver. This staff has a half dozen head coaches that could coach at many very good basketball schools right now. Making Mr. Stewart, the chief of staff/general manager….. Kevin is paving a new trail not only for BYU but for college basketball.

WOJ has quit his lucrative position as the number one sports information man in the business to take on a similar role as Mr. Stewart. WOJ was actually here/Provo being tutored by the best of the best last weekend.

I know it sounds crazy…….what we are experiencing here is kind of a perfect storm. Changing landscape….NIL…revenue sharing. BYU basketball is landing at the top!

Money does not guarantee success.
Need to have the right tools, vision, and plan. The right connections.

Kevin is the real Deal. Please do not underestimate this man. I predict that this is going to be some thing that we will never forget and I’m looking forward to the ride.

I loved it when Ainge, kite and Fred Roberts were all on the Celtics at the same time. This was a real highlight in BYU basketball history.

This BYU basketball thing is going to be life-changing for all of us. It will have a positive effect on all BYU sports. It will have a positive effect on Brigham Young University. It will have a positive effect on the Sate of Utah. It will have a positive effect on the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Go Cougs! Go Kevin!
