To analogize, if you scrubbed the Omaha Beach scene from Saving Private Ryan, the rest of the movie loses much of its impact. The awfulness of that scene sets the tone for everything that happens after.
Likewise, I understand if the Sopranos is not your thing. But if you take out all of the swearing, nudity, drugs and violence it’s just not the same show, not remotely. You can of course fill in some of the blanks (not hard to guess what they’re actually saying) but I still feel like it robs it of its impact. I mean, the show is primarily just an exploration of the ugliness of all of its characters and if you scrub away parts of that ugliness does the show still even work?
