division title.
The D'backs have backed themselves into a corner with their late season slide, but the good news is they still control their own destiny. One of the Braves or Mets will be coming out of their series with at least 72 losses, whereas the D'backs currently sit at only 71 losses. D'backs win their final 4 games and they can guarantee themselves a playoff spot.
However, both the Braves and the Mets hold the tie breaker over the D'backs. Finishing in a tie with either of them would likely mean the D'backs are out of the playoffs.
Lots of possibilities still remain. The Padres can't guarantee a D'backs elimination even if they sweep* as it still depends on what the Braves and Mets do at this point. The best advice for the Padres is to merely keep playing good baseball and let the playoff spots fall where they may. Attempting to rig which teams are in or out typically backfires.
*as of right now. The math changes if the D'backs lose again tonight.
