I think the two examples you provided are anecdotal at this point. From my
memory both of those games were games Kalani talked about in the off season about how he prepared the team specifically for those games. A lot of that discussion was around how Wisconsin/Baylor really pushed us around at the line and that is the mentality and type of team we want to be. The same can somewhat be said of the Utah game in 2021. These games were the big games to prove that BYU belonged with those teams and that Kalani was the coach/leader the administration wanted.

Your theory may be right with more games in the coming years against Big12 teams, but right now I would say it is more anecdotal.
