This helps me to understand Kalani's loyalty to his staff.
He does not want to be the firm that fired his father.

With that insight, I am willing to be more patient if he works with the offensive staff and helps them make constant progress. If they are constantly improving, like using the TEs better, then Kalani deserves to be given the benefit of the doubt. If they stop progressing, then Kalani can still help them and the program by finding them another opportunity that matches their commitment, ability, and passion.

For the world, many would feel KY made a step down by choosing BYU basketball over a head pro coaching position, but with what has occurred more are realizing that this can be a step up for him, his family, and his faith community.

Not all coaches are cut out to coach at BYU, but they can be very successful elsewhere and it might be the better spot as it will hopefully be for KY moving from pro to BYU. We should not look at coaches moving from P4 down as a failure, for many it will be better for themselves and their families. I suspect that few of us as fans are at the top of our professions, and yet most of us lead happy, productive lives.

I love Kalani's progress this year. I love his passion and the relationships he builds with his team and staff. I love that he represents the Church well. I love his stories of being poor and how BYU changed his life. I hope we can provide many of those same experiences for athletes in all sports.

I am grateful that KY is mindful of character, because if we fork out $ 4 M for a player, they will be associated with BYU for the rest of their lives, good or bad. I hope BYU will add to their character and in part because of their BYU experience, they become better people, family members, and leaders. I also hope many will find the joy of the gospel I have found in my life because of the example of good friends.

Please excuse the mixing of football and basketball metaphors, but never in my life have I been more excited about both BYU teams at the same time. Actually, this encompasses many BYU sports and athletes such as the amazing running program as witnessed in the Olympics. I hope all sports can attain comparable levels of visibility and success.
