Probably some truth to that, but to also be fair, I've heard first hand accounts
from a few former 80s and 90s players I know well that there was discrimination from some assistant coaches on those teams against non-white players. So I am sure it goes (or at least went) both ways and hopefully the program has flushed all those types of coaches out.
