I live in Uintah county and let me tell you a few things about the tribe. First, if the tribe thought they were getting
a raw deal or that it even smelled of being unfair they would make sure it was fixed, like really fast, or they would pull out of the deal. It's how they do business. Second, they are EXTREMELY proud to have their name associated with the University and with Uintah high school. Being a high school Ute myself it is really cool to have them participate in pre game stuff with their dancing and culture. If you ever get a chance to visit a wresting dual at Uintah(4 state titles in a row working on 5, 26 total titles) the pregame dance by the tribe under the spotlight on the mat, with the drums is amazing!

Lastly, FWIW, I do believe the University should be pushing the scholarship to the native students who apply. Any student from the tribe that qualifies to attend the University should be given every hand up they can get. Education is the only way for life on the reservation to progress. Some of those kids have so much potential and never realize it because the way of life on the reservation never lets them.
