I withdrew some Colones at an ATM in country. Taxi drivers and many others

happily take US dollars but it comes in handy to have some local currency or use a credit card on most things.

The airport is small and finding an ATM there is not easy. I used US dollars on a late night taxi ride to hotel and got colones at a nearby ATM in the morning.

Most places seem to take credit cards. If a pinch you can grab some at an ATM.

I needed a lot more cash than I anticipated. It was mostly tipping and taxis.

In country, any ATM will have decent rates, no need for exchange booth
