football, and I'm guessing you don't either. You're just assuming Arod called for the catch to be made behind the line because that's what happened. I'm pretty sure though on most passing plays there are multiple receivers and routes and the quarterback choses to pass to whomever he thinks is best

The coaches know where the line is, and the play call likely included multiple options of receivers some of which were probably past the line.
