I deer hunt in the area and live close by. For years, Mantua’s former sheriff, aka Bud Robo Cop, would give everyone tickets for the smallest thing, and then he was both the judge and mayor. He was nice to us, because the guys I hunt with,mother grew up there and still have family and land they own. One is also a Highway patrolmen, so he was a totally different person when they were there. He gave my other friend a ticket for 3 over, and wouldn’t budge. Total Barney Fife material.
When he retired, the new guy took on a similar level of patrolling and monopoly with the city council and city court. Only, he started setting up in the actual highway, which he had no authority to patrol. On top of that, their office was found to give some of the highest ticket totals in the state, despite being a tiny town. When he was approached by highway patrol, after they found his unit set up on the highway, they ended up arresting him for DUI. They had to come in and disband the entire Mantua police department and use the BE sheriffs and Brigham City police to patrol it, until they got a new sheriff and deputy.
