I believe that the conference bylaws require 75% vote to disband the conference, and now that 4 schools have applied to another conference, I think they forfeited their voting rights. This is a major blow to the MWC, but from what I've seen it actually almost guarantees their survival. Similar to the way the departing PAC schools left for the Big 10 and Big 12. They could have voted to disband, then applied to the other conferences. But that's not what the did, so the schools left behind were able to withhold their voting rights and plot the course moving forward.
