His pension is well above the top of that range. He isn't someone anyone would know by name or even recognize and retired in the 90's.

He explained to me that the older a player is the smaller the pension is. A lot of the growth in retirement pay has been within the last 15 years. The older guys have gotten significant increases to their payouts but is still not much compared to what guys in the current generation will be getting. The average lifespan of a former NFL player is only 52 or 53 years old so the NFL can afford to just keep using increased retirement funding in CBA negotiations.
