OTC hearing aids have been around for a few years. They are regulated by the FDA for mild to moderate hearing loss.
Bose dropped their OTC hearing aids due to poor sales. Jabra, Sony and Sennheiser OTC hearing aids all were developed by hearing aid companies. Uptake on those is poor as well.
Without testing and custom programming there’s no verification of proper fitting. OTC devices are similar to reading glasses. They can be good for the right person, but if you need prescription lenses, you need prescription lenses.
