Nix is the starter, so obviously if someone gets benched right now, it’s Nix.

Unless you’re saying that you were trying to point out the unlikely scenario that Nix gets hurt, then they bench Stidham due to poor play, so Zach starts. Then I guess you could be right. But it would also only mean Zach was starting until Nix returns.

Now, I don’t know why you bring up Wilson and Fields to support your argument. Both got “benched” (or in Fields’ case, just traded but still replaced) after several years. Maybe you’re arguing that Zach will somehow still be the backup to Nix in three years and they’ll move off Nix and see what Wilson has at that point. Maybe that will happen (it won’t).

But those guys got replaced by one of the greatest QBs of all time or a #1 overall pick. Notably, neither one was a third string QB cut from a bad team already.

But maybe you’re right, I guess.
