Fans could be brutal with some of the questions they'd ask after a loss. Lavell was always gracious after losses (not many by the way) but he must have been thinking how much he'd rather be home than having a fan second guess his coaching ability on the radio. I don't know if it is true but I heard that Lavell did the call-in show because KSL paid him like $100 to do it. I really feel bad that he missed out on an era where coaches make generational money in their profession, even when they are marginally successful. I met Lavell only one time. It was at a BYU sports event in Oakland California. I went to shake his hand and thought to myself, "how could a guy this small have played on the OL in his playing days?" The game has surely evolved.
