"Hybrid/ICE" drivetrain is great for cars, but I don't think it's great at all for a "rough and tough" consumer truck,
the problem is the batteries. They take up weight. For trucks, everything is about GVWR, even the weight of the carpet in the dual cab eats into your GVWR.
It doesn't make sense to eat up 30% of your payload for batteries that can only assist you with towing/hauling for 30 miles at best.
Currently, the ultimate drivetrain is still a diesel. The most reliable drivetrain is a naturally aspirated V8 without VVT.
It will take a lot of tech advances for EVs to best those standards.
