There are certain sports that compete early in the week (they mentioned gymnastics as one), so those athletes don't do the opening ceremonies and take themselves out of the running as flagbearers. I've seen track and field and basketball team members, not sure about a sport like swimming if they do the opening ceremonies. But it's from that pool that the fellow athletes chose Lebron and Coco.
