I’m not sure I buy that. Is that true of any other city the Olympics have been
in the last 12 years? London, Sochi (Russia), Rio, Pyeoungchang (South Korea), Tokyo, Beijing, Paris.

The bigger draw is that they know the location can host the games in a high quality fashion—including venues will be ready and at a high standard. And there was probably some bribery involved (an ethical and accepted bribery per international standards of course). A bonus on that is that SLC is one of the very few cities who actually ended up making a profit after hosting them. And this go around, the infrastructure bill will be even less due to the care and maintenance of the venues since the Olympics in 2002.
