I bought a console for this game and I really like it. It has some issues, but it’s still fun.
That being said, if my dad came home with a new Xbox and copy of the new college football game, it would have been the coolest thing ever.
The Series S is pretty cheap for what it is, I say go for it.

Series X will play his One S games on disc though, so that's probably a better
