People point out things like food and service still being available at a premium

but there is also the other aspect in which air travel has gotten worse: delays and cancellations. Sure, you can pay more for some kind of reimbursement in case the flight is cancelled or delayed, but you can't pay extra to ensure the flight is not delayed or cancelled. It is nice to be treated better in case it is delayed or cancelled, but either way you often don't end up where you need to be when you need to be there.
