I used Triclopry 4 on the sucker roots from our Sisso tree that we took down. It seemed to work well.
But I wasn't concerned about the parent tree- it had already been removed. I had to spray each sappling to be sure I got it, but they could have been no longer connected via the root system.
The internet suggests that spraying Triclopry 4 could damage the whole tree.
