Yeah, it took me a few years living in the Midwest to realize that this is how
a LOT, if not most non-LDS people view drinking (and driving). It's just so common that it's not considered out of the ordinary at all. We have to make sure that certain parents don't drive our kids home on the weekends because they're more than likely buzzed. Some people take it more seriously, but most don't. And they don't see it as a problem until there's actually a tragedy. Same thing goes for under-age drinking for many, many people around here. They just turn a blind eye and basically expect it because it's how they grew up.
