Yes, more or less an evolved version of that…
… the peel and switch defense in basketball can be seen as an evolved form of help defense. Similar to how some age old offensive actions in basketball never die and just evolve in their complexity, like PNR, ball-screens, give-and-goes, zoom action, etc.

The peel and switch builds on traditional help defense principles by incorporating more sophisticated, tightly orchestrated rotations and switches to more effectively guard against modern offensive tactics seen in 5 out read/react offense with PNR, a variety of ball-screens, DHO’s, etc.

It takes read-and-react concepts to the defensive side of the ball with quick communication and seamless transitions between defenders to maintain coverage and prevent open shots. It reflects evolution in defensive strategy to adapt to the constantly evolving offensive side of the game.
