DUI's are a tough issue for me to reflect poorly on individuals. Yes, people
die from people driving under the influence, and that's the most important issue. There needs to be stiff punishments. Where I stumble is that I've stupidly driven "under the influence" back when I was a teenager and not a member of the Church. I wasn't a avid drinker. One, because I was under age and couldn't just go a buy alcohol. Yet that didn't stop me from having access. Luckily, I followed my mother's genes and really disliked the taste of alcohol. The only alcohol she ever imbibed in her whole life thus far was a shot glass of wine for sacrament in the Lutheran Church that we were members of. So, driving under the influence of alcohol didn't happen much, but it did happen because I was a teenager and I thought I could handle it. I ended up finding out that I really liked tequila sunrises--heavy on the grenadine syrup. One time at the age of 17 I had to drive to work to mop floors at the end of store hours. I had drank about 3 tequila sunrises and I remember vividly, because I was very scared, that I was seeing more lanes in front of me than there actually existed. I WAS JUST LUCKY NOTHING HAPPENED.

But, I understand that young people make mistakes. I just remember getting in a car a few times and I just believed I could handle it. Stupid, stupid, stupid!

I joined the Church at 18 and now I'm 66 and haven't had a drink since. My father was an alcoholic and was caught 3 times for a DUI. Back then in Ohio, if you got a 3rd one, it was automatically a year in prison and he did go and serve that year. I believe anyone caught with more than one should have that automatic punishment. That individual appears to be unteachable and is excessively a danger to society.

I look forward to the day when all vehicles will be able to sense the individual trying to drive is under the influence. That's the only way we stop this lunacy and protect those people who are victims of those DUI.
