You seem to have a good understanding of what CA law is right up to the point
that you choose to take a position contrary to what the document says.

CA has provided a way for couples eligible to hold property as community property to convert from JTWROS to CPWROS.

"record a community property with right of survivorship deed with the county assessor. This is a deed in which you and your spouse transfer the property to yourselves as community property with right of survivorship."

Consulting an estate planning CPA or attorney familiar with CA law is a wise decision.

My experience as a CPA and Certified Legal Document Preparer working with estate planning does not go beyond Arizona. But the answer almost always is rely on what the document says.
