I think with the change from scouting, too often we've dropped the ball on teaching useful skills.

Some suggestions:
- on the car care, jump starting is probably ok, but less useful these days with the prevalence of automatic transmissions. But, along with changing a tire, maybe changing brake pads and rotors, changing oil, and other fluids.

- a regular cooking instruction, where you make anything from simple to more elaborate things, teaching cooking principles and not just recipes (I've done this for YM, YW, and YSAs). I would include meals as well as a few desserts (I taught pie making to the combined YM/YW)

- laundry and simple mending, like when on a mission, where you don't have your mom around to help

- photography/videography - how to choose your subject, get the proper angles, and post processing.

- knot tying was actually a really useful skill, and we don't do that anymore. Bowline, square knot, slip knot, etc.
