This is 100% par for the course
In my observation, there is no sense in China of any value in keeping things wild or natural. I have traveled and hiked in China and everywhere I went you’d see stuff like this - concrete streambeds, paved trails, ski lifts to the top of every medium-sized mountain, tour groups led by megaphoned tour guides in every direction, air-conditioned convenience stores in ‘wilderness’ areas, and weirdest to me practically every exposed boulder or rock face painted in big red Chinese calligraphy with quotes from some Tang Dynasty poet or whoever. It felt like a nature theme park more than nature.
