That is probably a valid observation — those programs aren't pulling down a bunch of national championships with that approach — and are probably causing coaches to flee to places like retirement or Arkansas.
But I don't think that's KY's long game here. I do think that he's trying to seriously raise BYU's national profile though — and that can happen more quickly by showing he can recruit and develop the best prospects out there for the NBA. Then you can build the kind of roster you need for a national championship when literally everyone takes you seriously.
