Same thing happens in the NBA. It's a result of hyper competitiveness.

All the attention she has gotten bruises their ego. It's put a target on her back. Everyone want to show they are better than her. If she is going to get special attention they are going to make her earn it.

I'm pretty sure there are several clips on YouTube you can find of "Welcome to the NBA" moments where the vets disrespect the rookies.
