Coaches talk openly that they now have to re-recruit their roster as well as recruiting new players.
The math is simple.
BYU had 12 scholarship players last season. Thus we started this cycle down 1 due to the unfilled Schollie.
SJ ran out of eligibility. Down 2. 11 guys still on board.
Neither of those openings are on Young. But, it is Young’s job to fill it. Luckily, or at least it seemed lucky at the time, Pope had 2 really good High School recruits - Chandler and Davis - lined up to get up to 13.
Thus - Young started with a full 13 person roster to re-recruit and retain.
From there, We seem to have lost
Jax
Khalifa
Waterman
Atiki
Chandler
Davis
Adams
Minus 5 guys lost to the portal and 2 recruits flipped. That left us with 7 scholarships to fill.
We added
Koz
Keita
Stanford Flip
Minus 4. That gives us a roster of 9 with 4 scholarships left to fill.
And 3 open assistant coaching slots.
The Clock is ticking, but we do now have 8 guys that are all worthy of some minutes. 2 are true freshmen.
The next 4 will determine whether this team takes a step forward or a step backward.
