i agree but my in-laws and most in their age range believe in leaving something
leaving a 'legacy' is perceived as a huge success.

My wife's siblings and my wife don't need the money. It would be a nice boost for us but it's not necessary. Anyway, with the children's financial standing, they have encouraged and even begged my FIL to spend more on himself. The 'buy yourself a new truck' drum has been beat so hard it's nearly broken. My point being, they just don't spend money. It has gotten to the point that when he takes required distributions, he just passes money on to his adult grandkids. To the credit of those grandkids, they've spent the money on their education.
