Yeah, the compartment was specifically designed for golf clubs
I guess it was just assumed that if you could afford a Packard in 1928 you were a member of the country club.
I do take them out pretty regularly in the summer (and try to fire them up at least once a month or so in the winter). They both stay in my garage - they fit OK but it’s a little tight for doing more than just basic maintenance / repairs.
