This was back in Akron, Ohio in the early 70's. This was the 1st year there had been haunted house's in that area, so none of us had ever experienced one. We had been told that there was a real scary one called Scream In The Dark. We were from a small town of about 15K, so going to Akron (about 275K), which was much larger and scarier to us. We went to downtown and parked. We saw a police officer and asked him for directions. He told us that he wouldn't go there because someone had gotten stabbed the day before. I had a step-father that had gotten stabbed in the area about 5 years before while he was waiting outside of a pizza shop. He had luckily survived. So, we were freaked out. As noted, none of us had ever gone to something like this because they had never existed.
We paid our money and we thought we going in the right direction. It was down this very long hallway that was pitch black. When we got to the end, there was a room, but lights didn't work and there was no way out--it was a dead end. Suddenly we saw two flashlights heading our way. Instantly the 5 of us teenagers (13-16) started believing that this surely was the guy with the knife and they were going to kill us country bumpkins. We're all hidden behind some desks in the room when the flashlight arrives to our location. Expecting death at any second, a voice suddenly says, "What are you boys doing in here. The haunted house is back the other way. You're not allowed in here. Now let's go." I could feel my heart beating through my chest and all for naught.
