No slap on the wrist, and no police charges against the individual who punched the ref in the back of the head. The ref that got hit, filed a police report, but the Skyridge administration and athletics department "can't identify" the individual.
Skyridge has committed to having officers escort the referees going forward. I'm appalled that this wasn't happening here. Every other school I've been to has police and the Athletic Director at the gate to meet and escort the officials.
This sets a terrible precedent for fan behavior. There is already a shortage of officials and the UHSAA, Alpine School District and Skyridge not backing up officials is unbelievable to me and will adversely affect recruiting new officials going forward. You'll also lose a few officials because of this. It's not worth the $60 game check.
Skyridge should have not been able to host a home game the rest of the year, in my opinion. Losing out on gate money would have been a justified sanction for the 2 home playoff games that they would most likely host.
