We few, we happy few
I did 50 miles around Bear Lake. Has been training and riding for months. Did a couple of 25 mile rides leading up
and they were easy. Figured, 50 miles, no problem.
That was the hardest thing I’ve done. To me 3 1/2 hours to complete. First 20 were easy…after that was a struggle.
I’ve always felt being in shape and being in bike shape are 2 different things.

I chuckle a little when people are confident or see it as ‘so easy’ if they’ve

The mental part for sure is the true test.

25 miles might take 75-90 minutes for someone in your shape. Try 5x that long.

It seems easy because your body has enough glycogen in its muscle stores

That’s actually a decent ride with very little elevation gain. Kinda cool that

Cache Gran Fondo kicked my butt last year. First 50 were awesome. I was ahead

I've done a 40 mile bike ride. It was no big deal. Didn't even train for it

I did an Ironman in my mid 20s based off the idea that I was just in great shape

There's no way I'd do that. I'd be bored out of my mind. If I'm going to be

Okay. You all saw it. CTD just said he could do it in 6 hours. Some people would

Average time for a century ride is 6.5 hours. I've been MTBiking for 13 years.

You can’t say MTB is ‘way way more taxing’ than road w/o sharing variables

The biggest variable is the bike, imo. A light road bike with skinny and smooth

Less than 20lbs is crazy light. Sounds like a great race bike. I don't see many

Given your posts, I have no doubt you could do a century ride on a road bike.

Hence why we ride tubeless now with pressures in the 50's to 60's vs 100+ tubes

Average time for a beginner rider to bike 100 miles is over 8 hours. Not easy.

And 8 hours in the saddle for someone unaccustomed to cycling is no joke.
