The sister mill north of Baton Rouge needed Salary people and they hired me as a Manufacturing Engineer on the two fine paper machines there. One year later they got out of the fine paper business and I hooked on with a pulp mill with the same company at a location south of Tallahassee as a reliability coordinator. 15 months later they laid me and 150 others off when they curtailed a line during Covid. They severed me and I was having trouble finding work paying anywhere close to what I was making. My old boss in Washington called after 6 months and said they were in serious need for salary people at my current location in Oregon and would consider me even though I'd just received a severance six months earlier. So basically they paid me to stay home for 8 months then moved us across the country. While I wished we could have stayed in the South, I feel very fortunate to be rehired.
