Craig L. Symonds' book "Neptune: Allied Invasion of Europe and the D-Day Landings"

Symonds' book covers the politics and wrangling about where, when, and who would be in charge as well as the detailed logistics, and wave-by-wave action on the beachheads.

Victor Davis Hansen: "The Second World Wars: How the First Global Conflict was Fought and Won"

Mr Hansen doesn't go deep into every campaign and battle; rather, he builds the story around the logistics and manufacturing, shipping, home-front, troop training, and larger strategic planning that brought about the victory vs the Axis, as in Yamamoto's famous phrase, the awakening of the sleeping tiger and the transformation of US industry to world's powerhouse.
