Depending on where he broke his fibula, he may not need a permanent cast. We
just boot kids all the time with most distal fibula breaks. And depending on the severity, you can almost treat them like an ankle sprain, especially in younger kids, with weight bearing as tolerated in the boot. Hopefully, his injury falls into this category. Obviously a lot comes into play when determining treatment, but if you have to break a leg bone, the fibula is the one to break. His summer may not be a total loss:) Good luck!
