Unless you're named Notre Dame, trying to recruit high-level talent as an independent is a tremendous uphill battle.

If we were still playing 8-10 G5 teams per year, we wouldn't notice it as much. But we're playing something close to a P5 schedule with only a very thin bench of P5-quality talent. If anything, our coaching staff has shown an ability to overachieve given what they have to work with.
