Hate....a very strong word!
I understand sports rivalries....and I think it is part of the "fun"....but the word hate seems to be interjected into the rivalry talk way too much. As an LDS convert....and having lived outside of Utah the majority of my life....we moved here in 2003. I've lived many places in my lifetime due to my Dad's and step-Dad's membership in the Air Force. One thing I have not been able to understand since moving here is some members of the Church who HATE BYU. It's a fairly known fact that BYU is a major flagship for the Church. If it's just a "rivalry type dislike"....O.K. But HATE? We throw words around pretty easily and I wonder if we should reconsider the terms we use. I guess I'm a bit sensitive to opportunities for non-member family members of mine in particular to find ways to criticize our talk and use of words....es-
pecially when you consider the LDS population in all student bodies here in Utah. Think we could temper our words a bit???
