Or maybe people who think dates taste like overgrown raisins don't appreciate
good dates?
For real though, dates are obviously not as delicious as high end caramel. Once you are off refined sugars for a while though your taste buds recalibrate and things like dates start to taste like candy. The texture is similarish too IMO, but it's all relative.
