benefits from a bad division in a bad conference. Colorado, Arizona, ASU, UCLA...? Northwestern would love to be in that division. Vanderbilt is wiping it's tear-filled eyes with all the $$$ it is earning in the SEC just looking at that schedule.
I am not really disparaging Utah because I think they have established themselves as a perennial top-25 program that has been helped by the fact that the Pac-12 is a shell of itself. Were this the 2000's when USC and Oregon were juggernauts, then Utah becomes an also-ran. BYU would have struggled against that version of the conference as well.
I don't know what happened to the Pac-12, but it makes me a little sad because it was a conference that I grew up watching a lot as a teenager and a conference that I long wished BYU would have been invited to.
Aside from political affiliation, BYU is a better geographical fit in the Pac-12, but alas, it was never and will never be.
