The Empire was overly confident. They thought their tech was flawless. They thought intimidation could get them everything they wanted. None of that story was undermined by RO.

As Mon Mothma noted, the emperor made a critical error. RO explained the details of that critical error. Episode IV was about how the rebels exploited it.
