If you can't beat a decent team, you don't belong in the NY6 anyway.
As much fun as 1984 was, it was seriously painful to hear over and over again that BYU hadn't played anyone and didn't deserve to be there. Can you consistently win more games if you have a lighter schedule? Yep. But we have been there and done that. It got old to win a bunch of games and then be relegated to the kids table.
Continually winning the "Mickey Rooney Award" by being slightly taller than Mickey Rooney isn't that interesting after a while. Some fans want to play with the big boys and have a chance to be a legit team. That means that you will lose some games, maybe even a lot. But it also means that your victories are never considered to be a fluke.
As for me, sign me up for taking a shot with a meaningful probability that you might fail.
